Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup cocao powder or cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/3 cup avocado oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Garnish (optional)
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips
- coarse sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix dry ingredients: Mix dry ingredients (oats, pecans, wheat germ, chia seeds, sesame seeds, cacao powder, salt and cinnamon).
- Mix wet ingredients: Mix wet ingredients (honey, avocado oil and vanilla extract) in a separate bowl.
- Combine: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Prepare baking pan: Spray a baking pan with oil and spread the granola mixture on the pan. Pack it into a thick layer.
- Bake: Bake for 15-20 mins or until toasted to liking. The center will still be soft to the touch when it comes out of the oven – that’s okay! It’ll harden as it cools.
- Add chocolate and cool: After baking, sprinkle the chocolate chips on top and allow granola to cool down for about 10 minutes or until the chocolate melts a bit into the granola.
- Freeze and serve: Freeze the granola for 15 minutes to help the chocolate set and break apart with a knife or spatula. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt if desired and enjoy!
Notes
- The center of the granola will be soft right out of the oven but will harden as it cools.
- Freezing the granola after adding chocolate helps the chocolate set properly.
