Description

This comforting Tajine pour 2 personnes features tender meatballs, peas, and potatoes simmered in a flavorful Moroccan-inspired sauce with warm spices like cumin, ginger, and turmeric. It’s a cozy, easy-to-make one-pot dish, perfect for a delicious dinner for two!

Ingredients

  • 200g ground meat (beef, veal, or lamb)

  • 150g peas (frozen or fresh)

  • 250g potatoes, peeled and diced

  • 1 tsp red pepper purée (or tomato paste as a substitute)

  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp ginger

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • Fresh parsley and/or coriander, chopped

  • 300 ml hot water

  • Salt, pepper, paprika, olive oil (for seasoning)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatballs: Mix the ground meat with chopped parsley, salt, pepper, paprika, a little olive oil, and red pepper purée. Form into small balls and set aside.

  2. Sauté aromatics: In a tajine or deep pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil. Add chopped red onion and garlic, and sauté until fragrant.

  3. Brown the meatballs: Add the meatballs and brown them lightly on all sides.

  4. Add vegetables: Add the peas and diced potatoes. Season with salt, pepper, ginger, turmeric, and cumin. Stir gently.

  5. Simmer: Pour in hot water, cover, and let simmer on medium heat for 15–20 minutes.

  6. Finish: A few minutes before the end of cooking, add chopped parsley and coriander for freshness.

  7. Serve hot with fresh bread or couscous if desired.

Notes

  • You can enrich the flavor by adding a pinch of saffron or a preserved lemon slice.

  • This dish can be prepared in a regular saucepan if a tajine is unavailable.

  • Great for meal prep and reheats well.
