Description

This Brown Sugar Soy Sauce Salmon recipe delivers a perfectly glazed, tender, and flavorful salmon fillet. Marinated in a sweet and savory blend of soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and butter, then baked to perfection, it’s an easy yet impressive dish ideal for weeknight dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Salmon

  • 1 1/2 lbs salmon fillet
  • Olive oil (for brushing)
  • Salt (for seasoning)
  • Ground black pepper (for seasoning)

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Bring salmon to room temperature: Remove the salmon from the refrigerator and allow it to sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes. This step ensures the salmon cooks evenly in the oven.
  2. Prepare the baking dish: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the salmon fillet skin-side down in a large baking dish. Lightly brush the top of the salmon with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and black pepper to season.
  3. Make the glaze: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, lemon juice, salted butter, salt, and pepper. Stir frequently until the mixture is melted and smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes. Be careful not to let it boil, as this could alter the glaze texture.
  4. Assemble and bake: Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the salmon in the baking dish. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to lock in moisture. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. For added caramelization, remove the foil and broil the salmon uncovered for the last 2 to 3 minutes if desired.
  5. Finish and serve: Once baked, remove the salmon from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Transfer to a serving platter and drizzle with any extra glaze from the pan. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh herbs if you like. Serve alongside rice, noodles, or your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Adjust baking time based on salmon thickness: thinner pieces may require only 10 minutes, while thicker fillets might need up to 25 minutes to cook through.
  • Broiling at the end enhances caramelization but watch carefully to avoid burning the glaze.
  • Letting salmon sit at room temperature before cooking helps prevent uneven cooking and reduces chilling inside the fillet.
  • This recipe pairs well with steamed rice, sautéed vegetables, or noodles for a wholesome meal.
