Description

Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein is a tasty fusion of two beloved Chinese-American takeout classics. With tender beef, crisp broccoli, and saucy noodles tossed together in a rich umami sauce, it’s quick, budget-friendly, and perfect for meal prep or busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank, skirt, or sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 8 oz spaghetti (or lo mein noodles)

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced

  • 2 tsp cornstarch

  • For the Sauce:

    • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce

    • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar

    • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar

    • 1/4 cup water

    • Optional: red pepper flakes or hot sauce for spice

    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Marinate Beef: In a bowl, mix sliced beef with 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp cornstarch, and a drizzle of sesame oil. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  • Cook Noodles: Boil spaghetti noodles until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  • Make Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey or sugar, and water. Mix well.

  • Stir-Fry Veggies: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add onions, ginger, and garlic, and cook for 1 minute. Toss in broccoli and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until just tender.

  • Cook Beef: Add marinated beef to the skillet and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 3–5 minutes.

  • Combine Everything: Add cooked noodles and sauce to the skillet. Toss everything together until evenly coated and heated through.

  • Serve: Garnish with optional red pepper flakes or sesame seeds. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Prep all your ingredients before starting—this dish cooks fast!

  • Substitute chicken, pork, or shrimp if desired.

  • Use traditional lo mein or egg noodles for a more authentic texture.

  • Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
