Layers of fresh strawberries, vanilla custard, rich chocolate ganache, and Brazilian brigadeiros come together in these indulgent trifles—perfect for parties, holidays, or romantic occasions.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Vanilla Custard:
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Chocolate Ganache:
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • For the Brigadeiros:
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Chocolate sprinkles, for coating
  • Additional:
  • 1 lb fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Extra strawberries, halved for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the custard: In a saucepan, combine milk, cornstarch, condensed milk, vanilla, and salt. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Make the ganache: Heat cream in a small saucepan until just simmering. Pour over chocolate chips in a bowl, let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  3. Make the brigadeiros: In a non-stick pan, combine sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it pulls away from the pan (about 10 minutes). Let cool, roll into balls, and coat with chocolate sprinkles.
  4. Assemble the trifles: In individual trifle cups or a large bowl, layer sliced strawberries around the base.
  5. Spoon in vanilla custard.
  6. Pour a layer of chocolate ganache.
  7. Top with brigadeiros and halved strawberries for garnish.
  8. Chill for 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Can be made a day ahead and stored chilled until ready to serve.
  • Use dark chocolate for a richer ganache flavor.
  • Try adding a layer of crushed cookies or cake for extra texture.
