Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup mashed fresh strawberries
- 1 tablespoon milk or cream
- 1/2 cup whipped cream or stabilized frosting
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, halved
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine yeast, warm milk, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, butter, egg, salt, and the yeast mixture. Knead until a soft dough forms, about 6–8 minutes.
- Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness and cut into rounds. Let rest for 20 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry donuts for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Mix powdered sugar, mashed strawberries, and milk or cream to make a smooth glaze.
- Dip warm donuts into the glaze and let them set for a few minutes.
- Top each donut with a swirl of whipped cream and halved fresh strawberries.
- Dust with powdered sugar just before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use stabilized whipped cream if preparing in advance.
- Glaze can be made thicker or thinner by adjusting the amount of milk or cream.
- Donuts are best enjoyed the same day they are made.
