Description

Juicy sausages simmered slowly in a thick, savory tomato gravy with tender chunks of onion and herbs — this comforting classic is perfect served over creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice with crusty bread on the side.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 10 pork or beef sausages
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausages and brown on all sides, about 5–6 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add onion and cook until soft and translucent. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to deepen the flavor.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir in paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Return sausages to the pan and simmer on low heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sausages are cooked through and sauce thickens.
  6. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or bread.

Notes

  • Use high-quality sausages for the best flavor and texture.
  • This dish can be made ahead and reheated — the flavor improves over time.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of chili flakes.
