Description

This classic Peanut Butter Sheet Cake features a moist, rich peanut butter-flavored cake topped with a creamy, smooth peanut butter frosting, perfect for serving as bars at any gathering.


Ingredients

Cake

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Frosting

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 6 Tbs buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt and soda.
  2. Cook peanut butter mixture: In saucepan, mix together peanut butter, water and margarine.
  3. Boil mixture: Bring to a rapid boil and pour over the flour mixture.
  4. Add eggs and buttermilk: Mix together and add the eggs and buttermilk.
  5. Bake cake: Pour into greased sheet cake pan. (or 2 – 9×13 pans) Bake at 350° for 20-25 min.
  6. Prepare frosting: Bring margarine, peanut butter and buttermilk to a rapid boil.
  7. Finish frosting: Remove from heat and add vanilla and powdered sugar.
  8. Frost cake: Frost cake while the frosting is still hot.
  9. Cool and serve: Let cool completely and cut into bars.
