Ingredients
Scale
Cheese & Bacon
- 8 mozzarella sticks
- 8 slices bacon
- toothpicks
Hot Sauce Coating
- 1/4 cup hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and aid in easy cleanup.
- Wrap Mozzarella Sticks: Wrap each mozzarella stick with a slice of bacon, making sure to cover the cheese completely, and secure the ends with a toothpick to hold the bacon in place during cooking.
- Prepare Hot Sauce Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the hot sauce, melted butter, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir well to create a smooth, spicy coating.
- Brush Sauce: Generously brush the hot sauce mixture all over the bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks to ensure every bite is packed with flavor.
- Bake: Place the prepared sticks on the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp and the mozzarella cheese inside is melted and gooey.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the sticks to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm as a spicy appetizer or snack.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes at the end of baking but watch closely to prevent burning.
- Use thick-cut bacon for a meatier texture or turkey bacon for a lighter option.
- Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing to balance the heat.
- Ensure mozzarella sticks are fully frozen before wrapping to prevent cheese leakage while baking.
- Adjust cayenne pepper amount based on your preferred spice level.
