Description

This Indian-style savory French toast is made with a spiced egg mixture, fresh herbs, and golden-toasted bread. Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, it’s perfect with chutney, ketchup, or chai for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices sandwich bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter for toasting

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, onion, green chili, coriander, turmeric, chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a little oil or butter.
  3. Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, coating both sides well.
  4. Place on the hot pan and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Repeat with remaining slices, adding oil as needed.
  6. Serve hot with green chutney, tomato ketchup, and a steaming cup of chai.

Notes

  • Adjust spice level by varying chili amount.
  • Use whole grain bread for a healthier version.
  • Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
