Description
Crispy, golden puff pastry wrapped around a savory sausage filling—these classic sausage rolls are perfect for parties, snacks, or a comforting bite any time of day.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 lb ground sausage (pork or your choice)
- 1/4 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine sausage, chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it in half lengthwise to make two long strips.
- Divide the sausage mixture in half and form long logs down the center of each pastry strip.
- Fold the pastry over the filling and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the seam.
- Cut each log into 4–5 equal pieces and place on the prepared tray seam-side down.
- Brush tops with egg wash.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed and the sausage is cooked through.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm!
Notes
- Use high-quality puff pastry for best flakiness.
- Try different sausage blends (like spicy Italian or chicken apple) for variation.
- Can be made ahead and reheated in the oven until crisp.
