Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Rolls:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • For the Garlic Herb Butter:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • For the Whipped Hummus:
  • 1 cup hummus (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Fresh thyme (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Divide dough into 24 small balls. Arrange them in a ring on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space in the center for a small oven-safe bowl.
  5. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Mix all garlic herb butter ingredients. Brush generously over the rolls.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While baking, whip hummus with olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic powder until smooth. Garnish with fresh thyme.
  9. Place whipped hummus into the center bowl and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can make the dough ahead and refrigerate overnight before shaping and baking.
  • Try adding crumbled feta to the hummus for a tangy twist.
  • Brush rolls with more garlic butter after baking for extra flavor.
