- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Place shrimp in a bowl with buttermilk. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove shrimp from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat well.
- Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or lemon wedges.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double-dip the shrimp in buttermilk and flour mixture.
- Serve with spicy mayo, tartar sauce, or garlic aioli.
- Best served immediately after frying.
