Main Ingredients:
- 1 prepared angel food cake (store-bought or homemade)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Optional Dips:
- Chocolate sauce
- Caramel sauce
- Cream cheese glaze
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake: Cut the angel food cake into 1-inch cubes. Try to make them uniform in size so they cook evenly.
- Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep saucepan or frying pan to a depth of about 2 inches. Heat over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a shallow bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Fry the Cake Cubes: Carefully drop a few cake cubes into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 30–60 seconds on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Coat: Use a slotted spoon to remove the bites and place them on a paper towel–lined plate to drain. While still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
- Serve with Dipping Sauce: Arrange on a serving plate and pair with your favorite dip for the ultimate churro dessert experience.
Notes
- Don’t overfill the pan: Fry in batches so the oil stays hot and the bites get evenly crispy.
- Use a thermometer: Maintain the oil at 350°F for consistent frying.
- Drain quickly: Letting the bites sit too long in oil will make them greasy.
- Toss while warm: The cinnamon sugar sticks best when the bites are hot.
