Description

Layers of creamy vanilla pudding, whipped topping, sliced bananas, and crushed vanilla wafers come together in a beautiful glass trifle dish for a nostalgic Southern dessert that’s rich, fluffy, and impossible to resist.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 45 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafer cookies (about 11 oz)
  • Optional: extra banana slices and crushed cookies for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together pudding mix and cold milk until smooth. Let sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. Stir in sweetened condensed milk until fully incorporated. Chill for 10 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold whipped cream into the pudding mixture until combined and fluffy.
  5. In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and pudding mixture. Repeat layers until full, ending with pudding on top.
  6. Garnish with extra banana slices, cookie crumbles, or whipped cream, if desired.
  7. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm bananas to avoid excessive browning.
  • Dessert can be made a day in advance and stored chilled.
  • To prevent bananas from browning, lightly toss slices with lemon juice before layering.
