Description

These festive Christmas Oreo Balls are a fun and delicious holiday treat inspired by the Grinch! Made with golden Oreos and creamy cream cheese, then coated in vibrant green candy melts and decorated with sprinkles, these bite-sized truffles are perfect for holiday parties, gifting, or just indulging your sweet tooth during the season.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookies and Filling

  • 36 Golden Oreos (or other crunchy vanilla cream cookies, 14.3 ounce package)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup nonpareil sprinkles (optional)

Coating and Decoration

  • 18 ounces green candy melts
  • Heart shaped sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the truffles from sticking and to keep your workspace clean.
  2. Crush Cookies: Place the golden Oreos in a food processor and pulse until they turn into fine crumbs. If you don’t have a food processor, place the cookies in a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin until finely ground.
  3. Mix Dough: Transfer the cookie crumbs to a large bowl, then add the softened cream cheese and nonpareil sprinkles if using. Mix the ingredients with a silicone spatula until fully combined into a dough. Mixing by hand helps prevent the dough from becoming too liquidy.
  4. Form Truffle Balls: Using a small cookie scoop or by hand, roll the dough into approximately one tablespoon-sized balls. Place each ball on the parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart and not touching. Freeze the balls for at least 15 minutes to firm them up.
  5. Melt Candy Coating: Place the green candy melts in a heatproof bowl and microwave at half power for 1 minute. Stir well, then continue microwaving in 30-second increments, stirring after each until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  6. Coat Truffles: Remove the truffle balls from the freezer. Using a fork, dip each ball into the melted green candy melts, allowing excess coating to drip off. Return the coated truffles to the parchment paper-lined baking sheet, spaced apart to prevent sticking.
  7. Decorate and Set: Drizzle some extra melted green candy melt over the tops of the coated truffles and immediately decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles if desired. Place the tray in the freezer for an additional 15 minutes to allow the coating to fully harden before serving.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a food processor, finely crush the Oreos in a sealed plastic bag using a rolling pin.
  • Mixing the cream cheese and cookie crumbs by hand rather than in a food processor prevents the truffle mixture from becoming too liquidy.
  • Freeze the truffle balls before coating to help them hold their shape.
  • Use a small cookie scoop to make evenly sized truffles for consistent baking and presentation.
  • Allow the coated truffles to chill completely to ensure the candy melts harden with a smooth finish.
