Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
  • 1 cup cooked crab meat or white fish
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 sheet pie crust or puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt butter: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Sauté onion: Add the onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
  4. Cook garlic: Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Make roux: Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Whisk milk: Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
  7. Add seasoning & cheese: Add cheddar cheese, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper; stir until smooth.
  8. Add seafood and parsley: Fold in the seafood and parsley, then remove from heat.
  9. Pour mixture: Pour the mixture into a greased pie dish.
  10. Top pie: Cover with pie crust, seal edges, and brush with beaten egg.
  11. Vent pie: Cut small slits on top to vent.
  12. Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Rest: Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Letting the pie rest for 10 minutes before serving allows the filling to set and makes slicing easier.
