- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
- 1 cup cooked crab meat or white fish
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 sheet pie crust or puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt butter: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Sauté onion: Add the onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
- Cook garlic: Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Make roux: Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Whisk milk: Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Add seasoning & cheese: Add cheddar cheese, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper; stir until smooth.
- Add seafood and parsley: Fold in the seafood and parsley, then remove from heat.
- Pour mixture: Pour the mixture into a greased pie dish.
- Top pie: Cover with pie crust, seal edges, and brush with beaten egg.
- Vent pie: Cut small slits on top to vent.
- Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Rest: Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Letting the pie rest for 10 minutes before serving allows the filling to set and makes slicing easier.
