Description

These Burger Bowls with Caramelized Onion Aioli are a delicious and low-carb alternative to a classic burger meal. Juicy beef patties are served over romaine with fresh tomatoes, crispy fries, and a rich, tangy caramelized onion aioli for an epic flavor combo.

Ingredients

For the Caramelized Onion Aioli:
▢ 2 tbsp olive oil
▢ 1/2 large yellow onion, finely diced
▢ 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
▢ 1/4 cup mayonnaise
▢ 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
▢ 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
▢ 1/2 tsp garlic powder
▢ Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Burgers:
▢ 1 lb ground beef (80-85% lean)
▢ Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

For Serving:
▢ Roasted potatoes or French fries (homemade or store-bought)
▢ Sliced tomatoes
▢ Romaine lettuce, chopped

Instructions

  • Make the Caramelized Onion Aioli:

    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and a pinch of salt. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    • Stir in brown sugar and continue cooking 5–10 more minutes until deep golden and jammy. Add a splash of water if needed to prevent burning.

    • Transfer onions to a bowl and mix in mayo, Greek yogurt, apple cider vinegar, and garlic powder. Season to taste.

  • Cook the Burgers:

    • Divide ground beef into 5–6 equal portions and shape into patties. Season with salt and pepper.

    • Wipe out the skillet and return to medium-high heat. Sear burgers for 2–3 minutes per side until cooked to your liking.

  • Assemble the Bowls:

    • In serving bowls, layer chopped romaine, sliced tomatoes, and roasted potatoes or fries.

    • Top with burger patties and generous dollops of caramelized onion aioli. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add pickles, avocado, or shredded cheese for more toppings.

  • Use ground turkey for a leaner option.

  • For a fully low-carb version, skip the fries and sub with roasted cauliflower.
